Magil Fine Art Gallery is situated on Bachelors Walk, Dublin 1, equidistant from O’Connell Bridge and the Ha’penny Bridge on the North Quay – a short hop from Grafton Street and Temple Bar.
The gallery is renowned for its selective range of quality art and for its relaxed atmosphere where clients are provided with good company, good art – or, indeed, simply a resting place for weary feet. In the depths of its interior you will find its gregarious owner Bernadette Murphy, who in her soft Donegal lilt will talk you through the paintings, explain the gallery services or indeed just leave you alone if you wish to browse.
Her gallery colleagues with their various areas of expertise will help you, too. While her enthusiasm for sourcing traditional paintings by distinguished Irish artists knows no bounds, she applies the same energy to discovering and promoting contemporary artists who she feels will become household names. She has encouraged many Irish artists, including the acclaimed Impressionist artist Elizabeth Brophy, who was first brought to the art lover’s attention by Magil Fine Art in 1999. And during the past three years Bernadette has sourced contemporary art throughout Russia. Many of her discoveries are now exhibiting successfully in London, Dublin and New York. Conversation in the gallery can centre around anything from the merits of different artists to applauding those who are creating new ways of looking at the world. Surprises are not unusual at Magil Fine Art. Clients who just come to browse and have a cup of coffee will often find themselves placing a deposit on a “must have” painting before they leave. KEEPING YOU ABREAST OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE ART WORLD
Due to the fast turnover of paintings at the gallery, it is becoming a challenge to keep the website up to date but it always displays a good sample of the gallery’s stock. The news pages feature new artists, fresh work by in-house artists and details of recent acquisitions. And the entire collection of any exhibition hosted by the gallery will be available for viewing in the usual manner. In brief, Magil Fine Art will keep you abreast of what is happening in the art world. Bernadette Murphy is aware, too, of the New York art scene, where the massive demand for contemporary art has exceeded all expectations. It was only a matter of time before the ripples of such success would reach London and Dublin. Bernadette has always kept an alert eye on contemporary art and is always seeking out and promoting new names. Her three years of sourcing contemporary Russian art have led to many successful exhibitions in Dublin. Such was their success that her clients persuaded her to further source Russian art. |
